Rotten Xmas

Mark finally arrived home from hospital today after having a stroke two days before Xmas. He's been told to rest now for at least a month. Lets hope 2013 turns out to be better.

Sprung a leak...

The heavy rain and flooding caused us to do a detour on the way to the boat this morning, we have never seen the roads so bad before. On the way home the fire brigade were pumping out the worst affected sections of road.

When we finally arrived we noticed one of the portholes has started to leak, a small wet patch of water on the floor, we can't make out if the rain has been driven around the glass by the wind or if the porthole frame needs re-sealing, a piece of plastic has been temporarily taped over the offending porthole until the rain eases off.

On Friday we ordered the oak worktop for the dresser and vanity unit. Today we've been making the template for the granite kitchen worktops.

Dinette ideas...

Time has come to start thinking about the seating for the dining area, bulkheads have already been cut to a rough size, all that's needed is to decide on a final height. We’ve gone for the pullman style dinette, this will include drawers at one end of the benching and a lift up hatch under the cusions at the other. The table will sit on desmo legs that can be removed allowing it to drop down into a rebate on the top front edge of the benches to form an additional sleeping area. An oak frame will cover the ends of the benching adjacent to the aisle.  All prety standard stuff.

Nearly finished...

It's been quite warm at the boat today. Finally finished off the edging to the shelf and fitted it along with the front panel, this means we've gone as far as possible with the vanity unit until we get the worktop.
The waste water pump has also been secured to the bulkhead, I've connected the suction hoses ready for when the skin fitting and basin go in, as usual I've spent more time trying to find things than doing the actual job, the jubilee clips have gone missing, i'm sure I had some left.

Another early finish, we really need to start doing a full days work.

Today has been spent mostly decorating, we've coated the two bulkheads that will be used to form the dinette. We also coated the kitchen unit and the vanity cupboard.
Battening that will carry the worktop for the vanity unit was started but as usual we've run out of materials yet again!
Shelf for the bathroom vanity cupboard has been edged and wedged up ready for finishing tomorrow.

Its been a lot warmer today on the boat. We've concentrated on getting further along with the vanity unit and fitted the bottom shelf and side panels. The front framing is just stood in position here for the photo but will be finally fixed in place next weekend once a shelf is fitted.

Stove and Vanity unit...

Today was the dreaded stove moving day. How on earth were we to get what seemed like an immovable object, up into the air and onto the boat.

We've had the stove for a good few months now and had forgotten how heavy it was. Anyway we managed it with some careful lifting and the help of a four wheeled bogie. It ended up not being as bad as we thought and I cant believe we escaped injury.

The boards with writing on under and behind the stove are the templates for the granite we'll be getting early next year.

We also made a start on the vanity unit for the bathroom, here is the framework that forms the front of the unit.

Frame almost finished and in its final position.

The little bits take all the time...

Isn't it surprising how long it takes to do all them little bits that have been left incomplete.

The weather has been a lot warmer today compared with the last few days thank goodness.

I don't know if you can see any difference in the dresser base from last week, but today we finished off adding the supports for the drawers.

Another job that has been forgotten for too long was to finish off the boarding under the gunwales in the saloon, it makes such a difference now its done. The two white cables are for the satellite TV with a 12v socket alongside.
